The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings (WUR) was established by Universitas Indonesia (UI) in 2010 as a global ranking initiative to assess universities’ efforts and commitments toward campus sustainability and environmental management. This initiative is conducted through an online survey designed to capture sustainability policies and identify programs implemented by universities worldwide.

The primary objective of the UI GreenMetric WUR is to evaluate the level of sustainability practices in higher education institutions based on their commitment to and implementation of sustainability-related policies, programs, and initiatives. The ranking aims to encourage universities to adopt sustainable practices in campus management, enhance awareness of environmental and sustainability issues, and provide a benchmarking platform for performance comparison among global institutions. Additionally, UI GreenMetric supports universities in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by providing data and guidelines that can be used to strengthen sustainability strategies and institutional policies.

The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings (WUR) framework evaluates universities based on six key components: setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water conservation, transportation, and education and research. These components collectively measure a university’s commitment to sustainable campus development, efficient resource management, and the integration of sustainability values into teaching, learning, and research.
These indicators serve as a global benchmark for higher education institutions to evaluate and enhance their sustainability performance, reduce ecological impact, and contribute to addressing global environmental challenges.

Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK)’s participation in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings not only provides opportunities for global recognition and internationalization but also delivers strategic benefits. It enables UMK to establish collaborative networks with other universities worldwide, exchange best practices, and be part of a global community committed to advancing the sustainability and development agenda.
